The residence built on a 300 sq.yards plot is a mosaic of intertwined free flowing spaces, replete with images, paintings, sculptures and photographs and each piece of furniture stands out on its own merit. While making the house way back in 1999, the challenges were immense but the dreams and promises had to be upheld, the clients brief was to bring in the spirit of their houses and the streets which he had left behind in Kashmir.

The rattrap bond brickwork, exposed concrete ceilings, the images of Kashmiri houses, niches appearing all around with faces popping up from them, the driveway with the map of Srinagar city, river Jhelum and Dal lake along with footprints of children, inlayed into the driveway floor create a street like character.

Besides a basement, the house has essentially two interlocking duplex units to address to the needs of a joint family. Intelligent use of levels help create sufficient headroom and space for storage in tricky situations and an expansive sense of space. The storages created between risers and treads, a large hidden storage created in the part of the drawing room floor is quite reminiscent of the house boat floors in Kashmir.

Extensive use of plants and trees, lawn and cascade on the top floor, jade plants drooping and big Champa trees giving the building exterior a garden like feel. The living areas are oriented towards the front green area, which along with ornamental plants has fruit trees and a small lily pond. The rough and rugged surfaces with extensive greens and large spaces creates semblance of a typical Kashmiri environment.
