OUR STORY

Est. around 1985, Srinagar, Kashmir by a couple of architects, a sculptor and a painter. It was deliberated to create objects of art, artefacts, furniture, interiors and houses which would embrace the local skills, adopt local materials and the vernacular elements which enriched the age old built form. The idea was a reaction and departure from the insensitive and alien forms and materials which had cropped up and were doing rounds as popular and fashionable. In our formative years, the efforts were to use materials in their natural form and to provide straightforward solutions which has been the hallmark till date.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

​

Right from inception, the basic thrust was to be honest to the materials, have a straightforward approach, come out with simple solutions, uncomplicate shapes and the overall builtform best suited to the climate and the environment. There was a strong reaction to the prosaic form and the insensitive use of materials that was apparent all around. 

 

Whether it is a small object, photo frame or a chair, originality and uniqueness, uncompromising passion for creating something different, each piece having its own personality and a story to narrate has been possible because of our perseverance.

 

During this journey we created works, which elevate to the level of art and at times it's not easy to discern where the function ceases and sculpture takes over.

 

Our furniture and other products stand out because of their joinery, craftsmanship, originality, uniqueness and lasting value. Inspired by the bold house boat building technique on one side and the intricate and deft joinery techniques of Kashmir on the other.
 

Our aim has always been to respond to the true needs of the client, at times to forcefully contradict and dissuade him, to make him understand the logic behind our approach, this helps customize and bring out a unique character.
